Carved from the enduring sandstone of the Adelaide Hills, the work resonates with the inherent beauty and ruggedness of South Australia’s landscapes. It pays homage to the GPO’s heritage, a cornerstone of Adelaide’s architectural fabric; ‘embracing’ the contemporary and historical aesthetics and stability of the building and its surroundings.

The choice of Adelaide Hills sandstone was deliberate, connecting the piece to the local environment and history. Each step of the carving process was a journey into understanding the material’s texture and character. The creation process involved numerous visits to the Adelaide Hills quarry in the selection of the perfect sandstone block, ensuring it resonated with the vision and scale for the sculpture. The act of carving was physically demanding and meditative and was achieved through the tireless support of Exhibition Studios, allowing for a profound connection with the stone and its historical significance of the GPO building.
